Buyers decide how they feel about a home in the first few seconds, often from the listing photo of the front of the house. The good news is that great curb appeal doesn't take a big budget. Here are seven easy wins I share with every seller.
1. Give the front door a fresh coat of paint
A freshly painted door makes a great first impression. While you're at it, check the exterior paint, front steps, deck and railings. Touch-ups go a long way.
2. Add flowers to the porch
A couple of planters filled with bright flowers make a home feel warm and welcoming. In the Valley's summer sun, they'll pop in photos too.
3. Pressure wash the driveway and walkway
Oil stains and grime suggest a home that needs work. A clean driveway and walkway say "well cared for."
4. Update exterior light fixtures
Swap faded, builder-grade lights for fresh fixtures. They look polished during the day and make your home shine in the evening, which matters during our long winter nights. Check the door handle and lockset too.
5. Keep the yard and garden tidy
A freshly mowed lawn and tidy beds show buyers the home has been cared for. In winter, keep the driveway, walkways and steps clear of snow and ice.
6. Add or replace house numbers
Clear numbers that are easy to read from the road help buyers find you, which is important on rural Valley roads, and give the front a quick refresh. Check the mailbox while you're at it.
7. Add a new welcome mat
It's a small detail, but it makes a home feel inviting the moment buyers step up to the door.
